Hantu Plastik
JED Creative Poster submission for Bintaro Design District 2022, organized by ADGI (Asosiasi Desain Grafis Indonesia)
Plastic was invented to make life more convenient. But its durability has become one of its greatest problems. A material designed to last can be used for only minutes before being discarded, remaining in our environment for generations.
For Bintaro Design District 2022, JED Creative created Hantu Plastik, a self-initiated poster submission organized by ADGI, turning this contradiction into a simple visual metaphor.
We imagined plastic as a ghost, something we believe has disappeared the moment we throw it away, but which continues to exist long after we are gone. The idea is deliberately unsettling. The plastic bag becomes a haunting presence, representing the invisible legacy of our everyday consumption. What we throw away does not simply vanish; it remains in the environment and can eventually return to us through the ecosystems and food systems that sustain life.
The poster uses the language of horror to communicate an environmental problem that has become so familiar that it is easy to ignore. Because the real horror is not that plastic can haunt us.
It is that it may outlive us.
Hantu Plastik is a reminder that convenience has consequences, and that the materials we leave behind become part of the world inherited by the next generation.
