About The Project
-
Entering Indonesia's competitive meat and frozen-food category, Nipponham Japan and Diamond Indonesia created Riverland as a new brand built around quality, consistency and Japanese culinary expertise.
The challenge was to create a brand that could communicate Japanese standards of quality while feeling relevant to Indonesian consumers—and distinctive enough to stand out in a crowded category.
JED Creative was brought in to develop the brand identity, packaging system and photography art direction.
-
The name Riverland provided the starting point.
It evokes fertile land, flowing water and the natural environment where food begins. We translated this idea into a visual identity that combines the richness of nature with the precision and restraint associated with Japanese design.
The result is a brand language that feels natural, contemporary and refined, rather than relying on conventional Japanese visual clichés.
-
The identity balances two seemingly different qualities.
Nature brings warmth, freshness and abundance.
Japanese design brings simplicity, order and attention to detail.
Together, they create a distinctive personality for Riverland, one that feels premium and progressive while remaining approachable as an everyday food brand.
-
We developed a packaging system built around two strong visual signatures: green stripes and a red dot.
The stripes create a consistent visual rhythm across the range, while the red dot acts as a distinctive point of recognition for the Riverland brand.
This gives individual products enough flexibility to communicate their different flavours and recipes while making the entire range immediately recognisable as part of the same family.
-
Riverland spans a variety of products, from Japanese-inspired recipes and sausages to karaage and other prepared foods.
The challenge was to create an architecture that could accommodate different products without losing the strength of the master brand.
Rather than treating every SKU as a separate design exercise, the system establishes clear rules for brand recognition, product differentiation and information hierarchy.
This allows Riverland to grow while maintaining a consistent presence across the category.
