Seminyak Design Week 2019

JED Creative participation for Designer’s Response in 2019 Seminyak Design Week.

Bali has become one of the world's most recognizable destinations. But as tourism continues to grow, the island faces a difficult question: how can it welcome people without losing the qualities that made people want to come in the first place? For Seminyak Design Week 2019, JED Creative participated in Designer’s Response—an initiative that invited designers to respond to issues shaping Bali and its future.

Our starting point was a simple question: Do we really need more hotels, villas and beach clubs?

Instead of proposing another development, we questioned whether Bali's existing spaces could be reimagined, improved and used more thoughtfully. The idea was to shift the conversation from building more to making better, finding ways to preserve Bali's natural landscape and cultural character while allowing tourism to evolve.

The installation presented this proposition as an open ended invitation to rethink the island's future. Rather than offering a single solution, the project asked visitors to consider their own relationship with Bali and the consequences of continued development.

For JED Creative, the project was an opportunity to use design not simply to communicate an idea, but to question the systems and behaviours behind it.
